ThxSoMch - Underworld, Uk.
I have to say, in this digital age it is necessary to have some sort of social media presence and overshare your life to get your music heard… unless your ThxSoMch (real name Carter De Filippis). The Canadian singer-songwriter, who’s age is either 21 or 22 (this is how little we know about him) started his career when he released his first single, "Runaway" in September 2022. He started by spending several months on TikTok showing very little of his face and just showing off his mash-ups and just some general chaotic videos using his music. I found him from his insatiably popular hit "Spit in My Face!" in December 2022, which has garnered over 310 million streams on Spotify and charted internationally - which is impressive to say the least.
Had the opportunity to catch ThxSoMch perform at Underworld in Camden on last night of the UK/EU tour leg before going to the US for three nights and the show was what I expected - over stimulation of the senses with chaotic lights and movements - it was a lot and it was hectic, the crowd was intense and filled with 16 - 22 year olds.
Before the show I was unsure what his stage presence would be like. I believe a stage presence is so important and you sometimes have to practice for it, but ThxSoMuch not only took to it like a duck on water, he was the definition of owning the stage and the crowd.
It was a full band set up, which was cool and this whole vibe really fitted well with the venue of Underworld. It was just shy of sold out - now that i was surprised about considering most of the other dates had been sellouts. My prediction for ThxSoMuch is that we’ll see him at some sort of UK festival next year on a second stage, preferably a tented one, and then in a couple of years he’ll be selling out arenas up and down the UK. This is of course, if he continues to make music - he’s a wildly talented individual, but I expect this air of mystery around him is to allow him to step out of the limelight whenever he chooses too.
My favorite song live was, unsurprisingly, SpitInMyFace.
